6 x Philippe Starck "Eros" Kartell chairs

These fabulous chairs were designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell and are know as "Eros" chairs. The clear polycarbonate/plastic bucket seats are supported by polished aluminium pedestals on round bases. The chairs swivel and are stamped "Eros By Kartekk with Starck Made in italy" at the back of the top of the pedestal.
These chairs are still in production and retail new for around £400.00 each.

Philippe Starck
Born in 1949 Starck studied at the École Camondo in Paris.
He set up his first industrial design company, Starck Product and began working with Italian manufacturers Driade, Alessi, Kartell, Austria's Drimmer, Vitra in Switzerland and Spain's Disform. His association with Kartell began in the 1980s.
In 1983, Starck refurbished François Mitterrand’s private apartments at the Élysée. The following year he designed the Café Costes.[5]
Starck's prolific output expanded to include furniture, decoration, architecture, street furniture, industry (wind turbines, photo booths), bathroom fittings, kitchens, floor and wall coverings, lighting, domestic appliances, office equipment such as staplers, utensils (including a juice squeezer and a toothbrush), tableware, clothing, accessories (shoes, eyewear, luggage, watches) toys, glassware (perfume bottles, mirrors), graphic design and publishing, even food and vehicles for land, sea, air and space (bikes, motorbikes, yachts, planes).
His work can be seen in the collections of European and American museums, including the Musée National d'Art Moderne the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the MOMA and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Vitra Design Museum in Basel and the Design Museum in London.

Kartell
Kartell is an Italian design company, founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli and now run by Claudio Luti, Kartell. It produces furniture, furnishings, lighting, home accessories & fashion accessories.
The company has 130 single-brand flagship stores alongside 250 shop in shops and 2500 retailers.


Condition:
Fair but with scratches to all chairs
One chair has clearly been inappropriately cleaned as there are milky wipe marks that cannot be removed.

Please note lucite must not be cleaned with any cleaner that contains ammonia as this will make the lucite milky in appearance. Care must be taken with cleaning cloths to prevent scratching. Appropriate polishes and cloths can be obtained from Bay Plastics Ltd.
