This lovely red lustre Rouge Royale vase was made in the 1950s by Carlton Ware. The ribbed bulbous base leads to a short neck with gilded ribbon like handles. The vase is decorated in gilt and jewelled enamel in the New Mikado pattern, the front depicting two figures leaving a pagoda with weeping trees in the background whilst the rear depicts a barge with a bridge and pagoda in the background and storks in flight. The top of the vase has a gilded flower border and the inside is mother-of-pearl lustre with a gilded interior border.
