This is a very special suite. The necklace comprises 11 flat blunt ended oval links, each one decorated with a raised geometric design. The links are connected by silver rings and there is a box and tongue fastener. The reverse of one of the links is stamped "Sterling" and the end of the tongue is marked "925" and "JKa" in a square cartouche. "JKa" is the mark of the German company J Koehle. The bracelet is identical in terms of design to the necklace except that the 4 links of the bracelet are curved. One of the links and the fastener are similarly marked. The two pieces can be put together to make one long necklace although the section that is the bracelet would then have to be worn on the back of the neck because of the curved links.
I am not sure of the origin of this suite. The design would suggest French which is where we bought it. However J Koehle are a German company who have been in operation since the early 1900s who specialise in the manufacture of clasps although they also now make jewellery. The fact that the clasps were made in Germany would not preclude the necklace and bracelet from being French. However it is a bit of a mystery that does not in any way detract from the beauty of the suite.
