Stuart Devlin 1976 silver, silver gilt & enamel surprise egg with bird's nest

This Stuart Devlin surprise egg was made in 1976 being no. 50 of its run. The heavily textured gilded silver exterior opens by lifting off the top to reveal a gilded silver bird's nest containing silver chicks beneath green enamelled and gilded silver foliage and an enamelled & silver robin with a worm in it's beak. the egg is hallmarked by the London Assay office for silver & 1976 and bears Stuart Devlin's sponsor's mark "SD" in an oval cartouche. It is also stamped 50 being its limited edition number, probably of a run of 300. It is presented in the usual black box with red velvet & silk lining that is printed in gold with "Designed & made by Stuart Devlin London".
