Large WMF Ikora glass & chrome topped lamp

I have always liked these lamps and this one is unusual because of its size.
Made by the German company WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik - Wurttemberg Metal Factory) in the Art Deco period the base is made of marbled red glass with orange marbled glass "drips".

The chrome fittings have a double lamp fitting at the top and a single lamp fitting at the bottom that illuminates the interior of the base to show the glass off to its best advantage.
The rim is stamped "WMF" and has the windmill mark.

The stem is retractable and although it has been wired to permit its height to be adjusted, we would not recommend frequent adjustment as this may cause chaffing and pulling of the electric cable that is inside it. The cap below the stem is held onto the base by the usual 3 screws.

A great decorative item for anywhere in the home.

Approximate dimensions:
Weight: 12.6lbs - 5800gms
Height (with stem at lowest point): 31.10ins - 79cms
Diameter: 8.66ins - 22cms

WMF Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik
WMF was originally called Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer and was opened as a metal repairing workshop. In 1880 it merged with another German factory and was renamed the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik and by 1900 through other acquisitions and mergers including the acquisition of AK &CIE Albert Köhler's famous Austrian metalwork company it became the largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau style, designed in the WMF Art Studio under Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914. WMF purchased Orivit AG, a company known for its Jugendstil pewter in 1905, followed a year later by the purchase of the Orion Kunstgewerbliche Metallwarenfabrik, another German metalware company.
In 1955, WMF started production of commercial coffee machines that were designed for restaurants, military mess halls, cruise ships and other commercial applications.
WMF was acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts in 2012.

Condition:
Very good - we have rechromed the fittings
Professionally rewired with current PAT certificate
Takes bayonet bulbs (normal size in the top fittings and small size in the bottom fitting but we would recommend LED low wattage for the bulb that lights the interior of the lamp base

The stem is retractable but we would recommend that it is kept at one height and not constantly changed to avoid chaffing to the cable that is inside the stem.
Please note that this lamp has a 3 square pin plug and is wired for the UK system. Please check whether this is compatible with your system before purchasing as returns will not be accepted and refunds will not be given if there is an electrical incompatibility problem.
