1956 Antoine Vriens Gala de la Presse bronze plaque

This hexagonal bronze medal is by Antoine Vriens, the Belgian sculpter & medallist. The obverse depicts a semi clad dancing female playing a lyre and is signed" A Vriens". The reverse is blank save for the words Gala de la Presse "Monsieur Beaucaire a M A Ghemar 3-12-1956" The rim is engraved "Fonson".

(1902-1987)
Sculptor, medallist.
Born 9 August 1902, in Brussels.
Antoine Vriens initially studied at the Athénée Royal in Ostend after which he attended the academies in St-Gilles and Brussels. Thereafter he worked in Alfred Courtens' studio. Particularly active in Brussels where his sculptures can still be found.
Awards:
Prix Godecharle in 1924 & 1927
Prix de Rome in 1929.
