This round snuff box probably dates to about 1820.
Believed to be English, it is made of black lacquered papier mâché.
The lid has been hand painted with a quite naive depiction of Lady Justice.
She is dressed in off white and is blindfolded.
She holds a sword aloft in one hand & a pair of scales in the other.
The edge of the lid has a red band running round it that has been decorated with raised round gold "buttons" many of which are missing.
