Another fabulous Ikora lamp by WMF but smaller than the other one on the site.
This lamp was also made by the German company WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - Wurttemberg Metal Factory) during the Art Deco period.
The bulbous base is raspberry red marbled glass with "flashes" of marbled orange/red. It has chrome fittings with a double lamp fitting at the top and a single lamp fitting in the bottom that illuminates the interior of the base to show the glass off to its best advantage.
The stem screws into the top of the base and is retractable. It has been wired to permit adjustment to its height, we would not recommend frequent adjustment as this may cause chaffing and pulling of the electric cable that is inside it.
The edge of the chrome top is marked "WMF" and has the windmill mark.
Approximate dimensions:
Weight: 8lbs 5.4ozs - 3780gms
Height (stem at mid height): 24.80ins - 63 cms
Diameter: 9.06ins - 23cms
WMF Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik
WMF was originally called Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer and was opened as a metal repairing workshop. In 1880 it merged with another German factory and was renamed the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik and by 1900 through other acquisitions and mergers including the acquisition of AK &CIE Albert Köhler's famous Austrian metalwork company it became the largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau style, designed in the WMF Art Studio under Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914. WMF purchased Orivit AG, a company known for its Jugendstil pewter in 1905, followed a year later by the purchase of the Orion Kunstgewerbliche Metallwarenfabrik, another German metalware company.
In 1955, WMF started production of commercial coffee machines that were designed for restaurants, military mess halls, cruise ships and other commercial applications.
WMF was acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts in 2012.
