Art Deco shagreen nécessaire

This lovely nécessaire is made of gilt metal covered in cream shagreen (stingray skin). The top section is a shagreen covered cylinder with gilt metal ends, one of which pulls out and would originally have held a small lipstick that has long since disappeared. A knotted cream cord runs from the bottom of the cylinder to a round cream shagreen covered hinged flat hat boxed shaped compact that has a top opening. In the lid of the compact is a small bevelled mirror. The rouge or pressed powder that would originally have been inside the compact has also long since disappeared. There is a cream tassel with a knotted top hanging from the bottom of the compact. The shagreen has been polished to give a smooth finish. This is a gorgeous item.

Length: 9.84ins - 25cms
Diameter of compact: 1.97ins - 5cms
