The obverse of this bronze medal by the French medallist Jean Lagrange (1831-1896) depicts a young man in a Grecian style tunic sowing seed by hand in the foreground. In the background is a man ploughing using oxen with fields and a windmill in the distance. The edge of the medal is millegrained. The medal is signed J Lagrange.
The reverse depicts a large basket with grains and fruit above a shaped cartouche in which is impressed the words "Associations Agricoles" and "Science Labeur" below. The words "Republique Francaise Ministere de L'Agriculture" are impressed around the edge.
The rim is stamped "Bronze" with the cornucopia mark for the Paris Mint.
