These wonderful dispensing pots were made by the French company Novex in c1930s. Each one comprises a ridged brown bakelite base attached to a moulded glass container, the bottom of which has 12 clear facets and the top of which has a frosted geometrically patterned dome with a flared frosted top. Above the flared top is nickel plated cylinder which is attached to a mechanism that runs through the middle of the pot to the base so that when the top of the cylinder is depressed the contents will be released through the base.
The bakelite base can be unscrewed to allow the pot to be refilled.
The underside of the bakelite bases are stamped "Reims Brevete S.G.D.G. Modeles et Marque Depose France "Novex"".
I have seen these described as sugar dispensers and they could be used for this or for pre-ground salt & pepper or for any other purpose.
